The Class Newspaper by Sue Gibbison

WALT: Reflect on the text

This week my reading group and I were reading a story called The Class Newspaper. We were learning to reflect on the text. Meaning that we need to think about the story and the characters. We answered the following questions and post to our blog. The story is about a boy named Tama and his uncle and two older cousins pulling a net out of the sea so they can catch some kahawai. When he went to school on Monday his teacher Ms Smeeton announced that they will be working on making a class newspaper. But Tama didn't have any events to share. In the following days he had news that he could put in the school newspaper.    Hope you enjoy.

Maori New Year

Walt: research an annual event

For the past 2 weeks my literacy group and I were learning about and searching about annual events. That annual event is Matariki, the Maori New Year. Matariki is a group of stars in the sky which shines and shows that the Maori New Year has begun. It starts at mid-winter which is late May and early June.

I have answered the following questions and I think I did really good. Hope you enjoy. :)

Room 16's Special Guest/ Literacy Task

WALT: Identify the main ideas

Few weeks ago my reading group and I have been reading an article about being a hero and how to achieve goals and ambitions. My beautiful literacy teacher Miss Clark has made this presentation for us to answer and to write a letter to a famous player.

This article is called It Helps to be a Hero and room 16's teacher Mrs Kneepkens went online and found a well-known player named Paul Whatuira who played for the Parramatta Eels. he came into room 16's class and they were shocked that they didn't know that he was going to come.

The famous player I chose was Maria Tutaia. Maria Tutaia played netball for the Auckland Diamonds at the National Bank Cup. The reason why I chose her because she made her dream come true and that she achieved her goals and ambitions.
